The Equitable Mathematics Education Leadership professional studies certificate will prepare you to lead and teach elementary math education courses. This program is a closed cohort for Prince George’s County. Those accepted into the program will receive full funding toward the cost of tuition.
This program aims to enhance your ability to catalyze change by fostering deep mathematical understanding and promoting instructional practices aligned with contemporary mathematical standards. After completing this program, you will be prepared to elevate and harness students' diverse social, cultural, linguistic, and cognitive assets for the learning of mathematics.
The four integrated themes of the program are: student-centered pedagogy, mathematics content conceptual understanding, culturally and linguistically sustaining pedagogy, and teacher leadership.

Courses in this program are selected to increase your leadership abilities and technical skill set in mathematics as well as teaching.

- TLPL 406 Teaching and Learning Math 1 (3 credits)
- TLPL 675 Embracing Diversity in Classroom Communities (3 credits)
- TLPL 611 Teaching and Learning Number in the Middle Grades (3 credits)
- TLPL 698 Conducting Research on Teaching (3 credit)
3.0 minimum (applicants with below 3.0 GPA will be considered on a case-by-case basis) GPA in all undergraduate and graduate work.
Certified Prince George’s County Public Schools teachers who are, or want to teach elementary mathematics. 1 letter of recommendation. A statement of purpose (see application for details). Resume describing relevant teaching work.
