Program Overview

Our program offers an experience designed to prepare aspiring educators to excel in teaching English The Art Education, Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) program is recognized for its intensive coursework and extensive applied learning designed to fully prepare future art educators for today鈥檚 diverse schools.

The art education/studio art double major embraces the artist-teacher concept, which allows students to develop a strong studio practice while preparing to teach art at the PK-12 level in today鈥檚 diverse schools. It provides a solid foundation in the liberal arts as well as knowledge and specialized skills in studio arts, art history, educational best practices/teaching strategies, curriculum planning/writing and classroom management.

Admission into our Professional Teacher Education programs is selective. You must take the following steps to be considered:

  1. and be admitted to the University of 浪花直播
  2. Attend a Major Exploration Workshop (Only for 浪花直播 students transferring to the College of Education)
  3. Meet with an Academic Advisor
  4. Meet all selective admission requirements for your specific program of interest
  5. Complete the Professional Application and submit Supplemental Application Materials

Students typically apply for professional teacher education programs at the end of sophomore or beginning of junior year. 

Professional Teacher Education Program Application

Selective Admissions Requirements 

The requirements below are in addition to being admitted to the University. Before completing the Professional Teacher Education Program Application, you should meet with a College of Education Academic Advisor. 

  • Admission to the University. 
  • Completion of a minimum of 45 credits
  • Cumulative 浪花直播 GPA of 2.75 or higher; 3.0 GPA is recommended for best consideration
  • Completion of lower-level Fundamental English requirement with a 鈥淐-鈥 or better
  • Completion of lower-level Fundamental Math requirement with a 鈥淐-鈥 or better
  • Minimum passing scores on a basic skills tests (see advisor for details)
  • Satisfactory completion of TLPL 433 with a 鈥淏-鈥 or better
  • Satisfactory completion of the upper-level content area courses. Consult Advisor for content area GPA requirement.
  • Prior experience in the education field with youth in the age range you intend to teach
  • A written goal statement
  • Two letters of recommendation (one must be from a faculty member or instructor in  your content area)
  • Satisfactory rating on the College of Education Foundational Competencies/Model Code of Ethics for Educators
Program Requirements

This program is designed to meet the complex needs of today's art educators. You'll build a solid foundation in art essentials and delve into specialized courses about teaching in school, community and museum settings. The program culminates in a year-long teaching internship to give you real world experience

  • TLPL 489A: Student Teaching in Elementary School: Art

Program Requirements and 4-Year Plan

The senior year internship experience is structured into two parts:

  • Fall Semester: designated time each week in assigned field placement schools - elementary and secondary - to get to know the school, their mentor, students, day-to-day teaching as well as curriculum and instructional duties.
  • Spring Semester: return to the same schools/mentors to 鈥榮tudent-teach鈥 full time
