Mary Ann Hoffman is a Professor in the Counseling Psychology Program housed in the Department of Counseling, Higher Education, and Special Education at the University of ÀË»¨Ö±²¥. She received her B.A. in Psychology from Macalester College and her Ph.D. degree in psychology from the University of Minnesota. She is a Fellow in Division 17 (Society of Counseling Psychology), Division 35 (Society of the Psychology of Women) and Division 38 (Society of Health Psychology) of the American Psychological Association. She is chair-elect for the Section on the Promotion of Health Counseling Psychology, Society of Counseling Psychology (Division 17). Dr. Hoffman is the recipient of the Dorothy Booz Black Award for outstanding achievement in counseling health psychology and her book Counseling Clients with HIV/AIDS: Assessment, Intervention and Prevention (Guilford) was named by Doody’s Review Service as one of the top health science books the year when it was published. She is a recipient of the College of Education Outstanding Graduate Mentor Award and is currently the ADVANCE Professor for the College of Education. Dr. Hoffman’s research interests include the intersection of health and overall well-being with a focus on protective psychosocial and positive psychology constructs. She has a particular interest in women’s health in terms of risk and protective factors. She also studies psychotherapy process and outcome and the training of counselors and clinical supervisors.
