A Pennsylvania commission is working to improve the Individualized Education Program (IEP) process for 14-year-old students, aiming to better equip them for adulthood. Kelli Crane, assistant research professor and co-director of the Center for Transition and Career Innovation, discussed the significance of this initiative with Public Source, a Pittsburgh-based news outlet.
鈥淚t鈥檚 such a critical point in any young person鈥檚 life, but when you鈥檙e talking about a young person with a disability, they鈥檙e going from entitlement services [which school districts must provide] to eligibility-based services,鈥 said Crane.
Crane also raised concerns that if the current administration continues to weaken the Department of Education, funding and research necessary for these improvements could dissipate.
