Professor Julie J. Park wrote an opinion piece for the Hechinger Report analyzing how universities are reimagining their admissions process post the Supreme Court affirmative action decision. Namely, Park finds MIT鈥檚 choice to abstain from collecting race, or ethnicity data in its application cycle concerning for student diversity in the long term.
鈥淐ollecting applicant demographic data on race is still incredibly important,鈥 said Park. 鈥淪uch data provides insight into what sorts of outreach strategies are needed, as well as information critical to understanding how students from historically underrepresented groups are reacting to the Supreme Court ruling.鈥
