JUNE 11, 2021 鈥 Dr. Christy Tirrell-Corbin received the Provost's Excellence Award for Professional Track Faculty in recognition of her outstanding contributions and accomplishments in research for 2020-21!

MARCH 31, 2021 鈥 Dr. Dandan Liao, alumna of the Measurement, Statistics & Evaluation program, has received the 2021 National Council on Measurement in Education (NCME) for her dissertation, 鈥淢odeling the Speed-Accuracy-Difficulty Interaction in Joint Modeling of Responses and Response Time.鈥

This award is presented to an NCME member who presents outstanding dissertation in the field of educational measurement and the winner receives $1,000 and a commemorative plaque!

MARCH 9, 2021 鈥 Laura Elenbaas ('17), Ph.D. graduate of the Human Development Program, received the from the (APS) this week!

This award is presented to APS members who show promise with outstanding accomplishments early on in thier post-Ph.D. research career.

FEBRUARY 19, 2021 鈥 Xin Joye Qiao, graduate student in the Measurement, Statistics & Evaluation program, has received the Division D Research Award! Xin is one of a very small number of graduate students and early career scholars to be selected for this award. This award will provide funding to support her project, "Multiple Group Joint Modeling of Item Responses, Response Times, and Action Counts in Collaborative Problem-Solving Assessments."

FEBRUARY 16, 2021 鈥 Dr. Gregory Hancock, professor and program director of the Measurement, Statistics & Evaluation program, and Dr. Laura Stapleton, professor of the program and associate dean of the College of Education, received the American Educational Research Association Division D 2021 Significant Contribution to Educational Measurement and Research Methodology Award as editors for 鈥淭he Reviewer鈥檚 Guide to Quantitative Methods in the Social Sciences.鈥

OCTOBER 12, 2020 鈥 Congratulations to doctoral student Yi Feng, along with Drs. Gregory Hancock and Jeffrey Harring, for earning the 2020 Tanaka Award for Best Article in Multivariate Behavioral Research!


The article chosen as most outstanding: Feng, Y., Hancock, G. R., & Harring, J. R. (2019). Latent growth models with floors, ceilings, and random knots. Multivariate Behavioral Research, 54(5), 751鈥770.

Each year, field-leading quantitative methodologists in the Society of Multivariate Experimental Psychology vote among all papers published in the journal in the previous year. The awardees receive a $1,000 honorarium.

JUNE 25, 2020 鈥 Dr. Kenneth Rubin, professor in the Department of Human Development and Quantitative Methodology, has been honored with the 2020 Lifetime Achievement Award from the International Society for the Study of Behavioural Development (ISSBD).


ISSBD includes members from over 60 countries, offering a wide global network of developmental scientists. This Lifetime Achievement Award is given to those who have been a long-standing member of ISSBD and who have made significant contributions to both the organization and developmental science.

APRIL 7, 2020 鈥 Raychel Gordon, doctoral research fellow in the Human Development Program of HDQM, has been awarded a 2020 National Science Foundation (NSF) Graduate Research Fellowship in the category of STEM Education and Learning Research - Mathematics Education! Her project is entitled: A Gesture-Based Early Mathematics Intervention for Low-Income Children.


A competitive program, the offers a thee-year stipend of $34,000, in addition to a $12,000 cost of education allowance. Congratulations on a well-deserved opportunity, Raychel!

DECEMBER 16, 2019 鈥 Dr. Doug Lombardi, associate professor of the Human Development Program in HDQM, has earned the 2020 Tom Trabasso Young Investigator Award!


Reserved for scholars within 10 years of earning their doctoral degree, this award highlights Dr. Lombardi's noteworthy contributions to the field so early in his career. The Society for Text & Discourse will present this award to Dr. Lombardi at its annual meeting July 21-23, 2020, and invites Dr. Lombardi to give a keynote address the following year in Oslo, Norway!

NOVEMBER 11, 2019 鈥 Dr. Judith Torney-Purta, professor emerita of the Human Development Program in HDQM, has received the Warren E. Miller Award for Meritorious Service to the Social Sciences from the Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Science (ICPSR, University of Michigan) for 2019!


In her acceptance speech in Ann Arbor she reflected on her decision to become a psychologist who studies young people鈥檚 civic attitudes and engagement nationally and internationally. She also quoted the founding Director of the ICPSR organization, Warren Miller, who wrote the following in 1989 for the ICPSR's 25th Anniversary Book:

"Ours is a world in which the emphasis on鈥riginality, insight and imagination has at times led to selfish, egocentric and less than civil behavior. The Consortium stands for openness of access to the facts (the data)."

AUGUST 27, 2019 鈥 Dr. Peter Steiner, associate professor in the Measurement, Statistics & Evaluation Program in HDQM, is the co-recipient of the American Statistical Association's prestigious for 2019! This award recognizes faculty making advancements in the teaching and learning of causal inference in statistics. Dr. Steiner has been awarded for his course, "Design and Analysis of Quasi-Experiments for Causal Inference."


Dr. Steiner is a new addition to the HDQM faculty and the University of 浪花直播, and we look forward to seeing his future accomplishments contribute to the program and to the field of statistics!

APRIL 24, 2019 鈥 Congratulations to both Dr. Christy Tirrell-Corbin, clinical professor, and Dr. Geetha Ramani, associate professor, of the Human Development Program in HDQM for receiving the 2018-2019 Excellence in Scholarship College of Education Senate Award!

APRIL 23, 2019 鈥 Of 26 faculty nominated, Dr. Ramani is 1 of 5 to be named for 2019! She will be recognized for making exceptional contributions to students' graduate experience at the Graduate School's Annual Fellowship and Award Celebration on May 14.

APRIL 11, 2019 鈥 Congratulations to our American Educational Research Association (AERA) Award 2019 winners!

Dr. Ji Seung Yang, assistant professor of the Measurement, Statistics & Evaluation Program in HDQM, has been named Outstanding Reviewer for 2018 for the Journal of Educational and Behavioral Statistics!

Tessa Johnson, student in the Measurement, Statistics & Evaluation Program in HDQM, has been voted chair-elect of the AERA Graduate Student Council. She will join the AERA Council in 2020-2021!

Dr. Allan Wigfield, professor of the Human Development Program in HDQM, has received the 2019 Sylvia Scribner Award!

Lauren Singer Trakhman, student in the Human Development Program in HDQM, has been honored with the 2019 Best Graduate Student Paper Award!

Yi Feng, student in the Measurement, Statistics & Evaluation Program in HDQM, has been selected the grand prize winner of the 2019 Division D In-Progress Research Gala!

APRIL 5, 2019 鈥 The Graduate School of 浪花直播 recently hosted its university-wide Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition, in which students have only three minutes to discuss the significance of their research to a live audience and panel of judges. Amanda Burkholder, pursuing her PhD in the Human Development Program of HDQM, was among the many doctoral students to compete but one of the few to win! Congratulations, Amanda!

Daniel McNeish
APRIL 5, 2019 鈥 Dan McNeish (class of '15), graduated with his PhD from the Measurement, Statistics & Evaluation Program in HDQM and continues to succeed in the field. Most recently, he has received the American Educational Research Association's (AERA) Division D Early Career Award and the American Psychological Assocation's (APA) Division 5 Anastasi Early Career Award. He was also named a Rising Star by the Association for Psychological Science!
