In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, the ÀË»¨Ö±²¥ School Counseling Program is excited to welcome:

Dr. Maureen Ponce

for this year's first School Counselor Speaker Series:

"EMPOWERING LATINE STUDENTS: NAVIGATING INTERSECTIONALITY AND BUILDING SUPPORTIVE SCHOOLS"

Dr. Maureen Ponce has 25 years' experience as a school counselor (middle and high school) and is passionate about supporting all students. She is a Professional Counselor at Thomas Edison High School of Technology in Wheaton, ÀË»¨Ö±²¥. Dr. Ponce identifies not only as a professional school counselor, but also as a leader, an advocate, and an interrupter as she supports the school counseling profession. Dr. Ponce has led her former school counseling department at Northwood HS in transforming their practices in order to implement a comprehensive school counseling program in alignment with the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) National Model. As a result, they recently earned the Recognized ASCA Model Program Award, the first school counseling program in MCPS history to earn this award. Dr. Ponce is currently serving a two-year term as the President (CEO) of the ÀË»¨Ö±²¥ School Counselor Association. In this role, she represents the voice of school counselors from the entire state of ÀË»¨Ö±²¥ at the state and national level.
